Welcome to Deda

So, you're dead. Sucks!

Except you might not feel dead—after what feels like a long brush with dreamless sleep, you wake up in a quaint hole: a coffin in an uncovered grave, blanketed in fog. Entombed with you are any personal items (unless they're trial evidence, sorry), and a strange feeling of... lightness? Whatever corruption was in your blood seems to have cleared away with your death, and your injuries are healed, besides any cool scars and lingering aches.

Once you make your way out, a quiet, verdant graveyard (literal) awaits you. You could take a look around the various locations, but the same fog that greeted you surrounds this place, keeping you from venturing too far outside of the town limits.

Still, you may as well get yourself situated. You're not done yet.

Welcome to the graveyard! Here's a quick primer:

You are dead. However, characters are healed of their critical injuries; they may keep any scars or lingering pains that you like. Additionally, they are no longer corrupted. The monstrous force inside you has subsided; this means characters will no longer have powers, etc.

● Setting ● The graveyard has the overall look and feel of a small New England town from the '90s; characters can travel any of the Graveyard Locations, fenced in by fog and forests. But the fog makes this place otherworldly, and strangely permeable. Maybe you can influence your surroundings?

● Living Watch ● Where there are screens, you can view the living side. This includes televisions at the bar, Heaven's Night, and in the apartment lobby—you may even spot a passing glimpse of them in a mirror or glass of water. Only public gatherings like mingles, trial, etc, can be seen and heard this way.

● Items ● Personal inventory transfers over to the graveyard, including items that may be stolen during trial. The only items that stay on the living side are ones that are voluntarily given away. Thursday victims will receive their items in their rooms on Sunday, after Execution. Those who arrive any other day will have their items in their grave with them.

● Injuries and Death ● Characters can still be injured and die here. While characters do not stay dead, please let the mods know if it does happen, so we can inform you of how it works.

● Audiences ● You can audience Death in person, but none of the other NPCs are currently available. You can ignore the note section and go to the apartment penthouse directly to visit, or meet him wherever.

● Effects and Events ● Weekly effects still hit the graveyard, and you may use items on the living unless otherwise noted. Mini-events will go up at the same time as their living counterparts. CYOAs are still available for our sweet deda.

● OOC Notes ● Alluding to the fact that the graveyard exists OOCly is okay, but please keep details of what it looks like, what happens here, plot, et cetera, to yourselves. Feel free to ask the mods if you're not sure about anything!

[ Death limps towards him and Karma steps back, step for step ]

No. I saw you dead.

[ He stops. ]

That's right. And now I'm alive.

Do you want to check my pulse?

[ That's a real offer. ]

[intrapid]

[ Uh huh. Yeah. He knows exactly how this will play out: """Death""" holds his hand out, Karma makes the dumb mistake of reaching for it, and then he gets swept off his feet and thrown to the ground and stabbed in the neck, it's what he would have done ]

No. I want you to prove it to me, rather than expect me to take you at your word.

[wolftonic]

[ He just cants his head slightly, not bothering to argue. ]

All right. And how would you like me to do that?

[intrapid]

Show me what's under your eyepatch.

[ ... ]

[wolftonic]

[ He moves slowly to pull the patch off his face entirely, like moving suddenly might startle a woodland creature. It looks like it did when Karma checked it—which is boring. He has both eyes. ]

...I wear it because I have impaired vision. Not because of injury.

[intrapid]

[ Hm. Disappointment. ]

You got everything else fixed up.

[ he gestures to the left, non crispy side of him ]

Why not your eye?

[ Sorry for no Cool Scars ]

Healing my wounds probably wouldn't do much for my disabilities. [ he wags his cane a bit. ] This is just how my body is these days. Or maybe it's because this happened to me quite some time ago, and the revival process only cares about recent... issues.

Is that proof enough?

[intrapid]

Not even close. ...but that's fine. It's magic. Whatever.

[ whatever!!!! he hates this, to nobody's surprise. ]

Boothill and Aventurine keep talking about everybody being "dead" [ fingerquotes ] but we're not. For all intents and purposes, we're alive.

[ any arguments against that, he'll take and shoot down now ]

[wolftonic]

[ He was avoiding magic but yeah. ]

I agree. We're alive.

[ He's a doctor, by every definition that matters to him, they're alive. ]

It doesn't change that we did die, at some point, even if it didn't stick. But what's important is that we're alive. On top of that... you don't hear your monster anymore, do you?

[intrapid]

[ It's like people whose hearts stop and get defibrillated: they were dead and now they're not, happens all the time, he can accept that much. ]

My monster...? No, I don't think I ever did. I don't need anybody else's power but my own...

[ so he says, but uncertainty laps at his feet, especially towards the end ]

[wolftonic]

[ sounds like a trauma response but okay my child

They don't speak for a moment, quiet when they start up again. ]

...So you never used its power?

[ They ask as though they may know the answer already. ]

[intrapid]

I don't... [ think so? but he knows so. maybe he just doesn't want to admit it, without how proud he is of his own strength, how confident was is that he would never be weak enough to give in to the monster inside. ]

...I was going to die. I was scared. I- ... I remember crying out for help, but I don't know if the monster ever responded.

[ for all he knows, maybe it did. even so, it doesn't matter. nobody came to help, or if they did, it was already too late ]

[wolftonic]

[ He's stoic, but his expression softens some anyway. ]

...It did. Respond, I mean. I'm sorry it wasn't strong enough. Still, it wasn't wrong to try.

[ But he didn't ask this to torment him. ]

Though you probably don't hear it anymore. None of the others did, when they arrived.

[intrapid]

[ the confirmation of his weakness makes his shoulders sag, but the disappointment isn't quite there. it's just confirmation, after all; he always knew he was weak ]

Is it a property of this place? If everybody is able to come here and get rid of their monsters, that might be best. We can start over on this side.

[ tpk game let's goooooooo ]

[wolftonic]

[ NO karma I would die for you? It's still affection week so he'll attempt to put a hand on his shoulder. ]

...Let's not rush to conclusions. We can't confirm it's a property of this town, because we haven't learned enough about it yet.

Or are you just in a hurry to see them again? [ the living ]

[intrapid]

[ nehan gets a surprised little shoulder jolt for his efforts, but at least karma doesn't shrug him off ]

I do want to see them again. I need to make sure they're all safe.

[wolftonic]

They are for now. There's still some time left.

[ he glances around the cemetery for anything reflective, before just drawing an empty vial from his holster. it's a small image, but you can see glimpses of the dead in it anyway. ]

You can spot them from here, if it would assuage your concerns some.

[ "for now" everybody here is so pessimistic he hates it actually, especially when nehan pulls out the vial and karma's first instinct is to look inside of it before realizing it's the surface that's moving ]

...I think I'm more concerned, now.

[ on one hand, it's great, relieving to see people out there safe and alive. he taps on the surface, as if that'd make more people post to the public mingle so he can snoop.

on the other hand, though, this is so sketch, this feels illegal somehow ]

Sure, but we're going to have to revisit that later. That cult of yours doesn't live in a place like this, do they? Able to see our every move, just like this?

[wolftonic]

They can see most things, which is why we have to be careful about any mass gatherings and public disruption. It'd draw their attention. But most day-to-day observation was left to us, the overseers.

...Though I've seen no indication that we're being watched here. If anything, no one can reach us at all. [ Different problem. ]

[intrapid]

Not even with your crows? Or the cats? -—no, cats wouldn't work.

[ he can just imagine tying a letter to a cat. it'd lie down and nap for 16 hours and then eat his paper. ]

[wolftonic]

The crows are unremarkable. The cats are... uncooperative.

[ he expects no help whatsoever from the creatures here. ]

We can look for another way to reach them. Maybe we can help from here.

We have to, or what good are we?

[ that's easier said than done, he knows, he knows. ]

I'll keep thinking about it. Maybe I'll take another walk through the fog- your place and ours were connected through the fog, maybe it's the same for this one?
