[ME LIKE WHY IS ANNA MORE UNHINGED THAN USUAL it's because of the nudist brackets... i see....... also listen, coyotes are everywhere if you believe.
Anyway Lucas will look up at the balcony that's just above them, is this one also very high up. He doesn't get jumpscared by the voice, though he does glance at Nona to make sure she's alright in her own jumpscare corner over there.]
Hello! We're terribly sorry to intrude, but we could use a little help.
I keep trying to put brackets, this is already going to fail me deeply.
One or all of you may make a History Check (roll a d20) if you would like to see what you have heard, or remember of the tower. The balcony above them is 3-D, extending out like a balcony should, though the edges of it resemble the painted edges of the other flat, 2-D balconies elsewhere. There doesn't seem to be any rope, or ladder, or stairs leading up to it. It's situated yards above them, so not even stacking one on top of the other would hope to reach its height.
From above them on the not 2-D balcony, they can make out the figure of someone standing at the edge and peering down at them without leaning over. They seem to have a cup of tea and a saucer in each hand, slowly taking a sip. Their voice comes again, masculine, low, a normal speaking voice, but is clear and as easily heard around them as if they were standing with the group, too: "I see...
[I ROLLED A 7 HE CAN'T SEE SHIT. BUT IT'S OKAY I GOT A 20 FOR NONA!!!! WHAT DO HIS CATHOLIC EYES SEE. Outside of this guy who's just hanging out up there. IM NOT ANSWERING THIS SHADY MAN UNTIL I KNOW MORE ABOUT WHAT'S GOING ON.]
[ kate is apparently so stunned by the question that her mind blanks... but with the grounding presence of gojo, she maybe recalls something with a roll of 17... ]
You guys are really making this dude up on the balcony wait. The voice says, "Hmph." But they don't move from where they are on the balcony. Waiting for your History Check.
WELL. With Nona's help talking it over, Lucas reaches deep into the darkest depths of his mind palace for information on Tidepeak Tower. They remember hearing talk on the ship about the owner of the Open Quay, a powerful elven mage named Yussa Errenis. Rumors speculate he resides in the strange tower in the center, but no one has ever seen much of him at all. A real Rapunzel with few audiences. People instead remember liason with his assistant, a goblin named Wensworth.
Kate, with help talking it over with Gojo, will remember gossip about his admiration and captivation for tea.
"Well?" the voice questions. "Did you have an appointment?"
Yeah! Maybe we can have some cultural exchange, too. Are you familiar with Japan? We have all sorts of tea grown at different altitudes and blends for different occasions.
YOU'RE GONNA ASSASSINATE A POWERFUL, ELVEN MAGE? You know what, after the 20, I actually believe you could make a very good attempt.
The person on the balcony above hums in consideration, and the sound reverberates around each of you. You have made different, but fine offers... despite lying. "Very well," the voice says. "I will listen to what you have to say. I have not heard of Japan, no." Sir, this is an Exandria.
"Do you have any of this tea with you?" They are perhaps just curious. "What sort of business are you here for exactly...?"
[STOP NO ONE'S ASSASSINATING ANYONE TODAY probably. He'll leave the tea talk up to the tea gossip havers, but he's just like WHAT SORT OF BUSINESS ARE THEY HERE FOR. SWEATY. Glancing around at the others like hm what's a believable reason for these fucking guys to all get together and visit an all-powerful elven mage recluse.]
—We're here to discuss an artifact we found in a foreign land that we think may be of interest.
I don't have samples because I thought that you would prefer to learn about the different methods used, then you can achieve the perfect blend and style to suit your taste.
[ Lies less because he thinks they need to long con longer.... It would be difficult when they're caught without tea immediately. ]
It wouldn't be hard to craft some tools for tea, though. There are specific ones used for a tea ceremony!
The voice doesn't say anything for a very agonizingly long moment. The person above is thinking this over, considering their lies. The tea is a hard sell, honestly. But if they don't have any... And yet, the other part peaked interest as well.
The painfully long moment goes on forever.
"Decide your method then and enter."
The person on the balcony turns away and disappears; they must go back inside the tower. The balcony they had been on gives a quivering warble before it, too, because two-dimensional against the tower's outside face. Wow...
Anyhow, a few feet off to the side of them, a similarly painted doorway reveals itself. The whole of it does not look three-dimensional at all; however... there is a three-dimensional doorknob.
Imagine if the door did not open for Nona. But no, it does. The door swings open inward instead of outward, leaving behind a gaping, dark hole in the shape of a door on the tower.
They may go inside? If they dare to pass through the shadows.

do they know anything about this tower, besides that it has the Ball? should there be anyone living there...?
