I don't know, it looked like a rather good choice to me. [ they will validate the bloodshed, you're welcome. ] And you didn't become like him in the end either.
[ they turn away, but pause for him. ]
Come along, maker slayer. Have you decided any more what you plan to do with your freedom?
Would I have even cared? [ he doesn't know. but ultimately, he made his choice and -- well. if he's ever pressed about it, maybe this was the better choice. maybe he would've regretted it. ]
I thought the point was that the chance of that happening is extremely dependant on us screwing over the cult and getting out of here?
... I'd have to wait either way. We were in the middle of something that I can't really put on hold to go "find myself".
[ the bathroom is very good for him, we're washing away the spurs and the sins.
anyway, surprise.
when astarion comes back out of the bathroom, war is returning, but they are right in the middle of lifting the mask to their face again.
they are actually a he, and he is a deep and richly purple-skinned drow. a very handsome drow, unfortunately. his ears are capped in elegant, silver jewelry, and a small hoop is even in the middle of his nose. the shock of his short and white hair matches the white of his brows and lashes. the violet eyes look stunned having been caught, and he isn't sure whether to shove the mask on quickly anyway, or give up. ]
(anna voice) curse this drow and his good looks. good thing astarion is not looking like he crawled backwards through a gas station pump for this meeting with the (anna voice) very handsome drow.
...
he absolutely leans back and gives essek a once over. ]
Now, why are you making me feel like I've caught you doing something scandalous? [ he looks so stunned. help. ]
I am actually not big on participation in cults, so it is only my personal opinion when I say that is a very stupid thing to do. But I guess... some groups do not mind the lack of anonymity under certain circumstances.
Well, that makes two of us. I already feel religion is a... crutch to some, [ sorry, shadowheart ] but I have become not a fan of the object of Gale's previous love affair. Shouldn't a goddess have the power to do what she asked of him easily? Sounds a little questionable to me...

Oh no, he would've died either way. Bloodily and painfully. [ ... ] I would never have had to fear anything again.
[ if he'd gone through with the ritual. it's a little wistful. and then he pauses and snorts slightly. ]
Oh yes, freedom's working out wonderfully for me so far. Trapped somewhere else by people who want to sacrifice me.

[ they will take astarion through the fog in the southwest and to the inn again. ]
Yes. I meant outside of that. When you go back, have you decided what you will do with your freedom then?

Oh?
[ curious. ]

You do not have the pleasure of being the only cult we've been dealing with, my dear. As involved as you truly are or aren't.

A different cult than the one you were surrounded by with your former sire?

How does that sound?

time to go and be cleansed somewhere that isn’t the awful little bathrooms in their new location. wow. such cleanliness. ]

You weren't supposed to just walk out yet.

Oh, well I beg your pardon. Last time you did tell me not to linger.

I just said do not take forever. There are four of us who live here permanently who need the bathroom as well.

[ caught with your mask off, sir. ]
Is it as heavy to wear as it looks?

[ must wear. ]

A truly anonymous cult. How interesting. Most of the Absolute just wandered around with their identities fully on display.

When your goal is a little more wide reaching that simply birthing a god, you don't need to hide your identity quite as much, I suppose.

The ones Gale was instructed to destroy...?

Personally, I think his goddess can get off her high horse, but the idea of blowing it up isn't such a bad thing. Maybe not with a Gale, though.
