It is bizarre having a mirror to look into. [ what does this mean. ] To see you get bothered by the annoyance of what friends put you through, the friends you never asked for maybe, but who forced you to be friends anyway.
I can understand.
I don't think it's a bad decision to try. The deaths of all partners shouldn't occur instantly, if our assumptions are correct. That means he would have a chance.
It means I spent a very long time on my own, isolated from the rest of my people because I questioned our faith and its artifacts. Until a bothersome little troupe of people tried to befriend me.
[ annoying! but here they are. ]
Well, only if his confirmed partner died, then he potentially could, but his life would be tied to someone else, of course, to make that so. High risk, high reward.

Ah. That does sound a little familar, even if perhaps they didn't corner me while I was in a specific type of isolation. What made you start questioning your faith?
[ annoying, and yet you are still cornered by them. ]
Ah. Yes, well. I suppose we will have to wait and see what happens -- not to wish a person dead, but it would be something we could work with.
[ goodnight.... thinks of all who died while you were sleeping and nods. ]
It's a long story if you're bored, but the short of it is... I am interested in finding out more about the relics of our faith instead of taking them as a blessing.
Oh, I have quite the active social life here, you understand. But I can make time for you and your tales. [ share. ] So... researching them rather than just accepting what they can do without question?
[ he turns and motions back from where they initially came. there is a little den area here with a couch where they can sit for a bit. ]
My people have within their possession several beacons which were ancient, magical relics excavated from old ruins. If a person goes through the ritual of "consecution," then when they die, if they are within a certain radius of a beacon, they will be reincarnated into a child born in the vicinity. They will be granted another life, and they will retain the memories of all previous lives.
My people believe these beacons are pieces of our deity, the Luxon. A handful have gone through many lives of this rite of consecution until they have reached what they believe to be is a perfect soul, and they are now prepared to meet the Luxon. Our queen and my mother are one such example.
None of them particular question any of this much less want to dig further into what the beacons are capable of doing.
[ IT'S JUST RIGHT OUT THERE BY THE DOOR it isn't that forbidden. listen. ]
It works. They remember, yes. [ a pause. ] If I'm being honest, I do not... really believe in a deity at all. Not this one. I would like to learn more about the beacons. I think they may simply be manufactured artifacts from long ago during an age of arcana. I can't say whether gods had a hand in their creation at all.
[ everything here is forbidden. the forbidden npc mtv crib. where does the magic happen? ]
You don't need to be coy with me about religion. I gave up hope on the gods hundreds of years ago. [ ... ] Oh, so... some sort of mechanism that has been so long forgotten it gained a mythical level of notority?
I've never heard of an artifact that could transfer memories to someone though.
Well, I have no detailed explanation in how it works - that is what I'm trying to research - but the memories seem to be a part of the soul, so the transference of the soul into another body keeps them in tact.
[ there are some dangers of this, of course, but he does not know them lol very funny. ]

... Unfortunately, with exposure you get used to people. [ he's going to stab anyone who kills karlach or gale don't tell him that. ]
Wait, even partnered ones? There'd be a window to prevent the obvious?

Ultimately, I have priorities.

Hm. It actually works? Both your Queen and your mother remember past lives?
[ ... ]
Generally speaking, the gods do not do things because they feel benevolent. Surely there was something in all this for your deity.

If you could harnass that with less ... limitations on when it works. That would be quite the powerful tool.

Ah. That's unfortunate.
