Our matches. How exactly does the reward work for finding them? I know it's a power boost, but wouldn't that just alert the rest of the cult that we have powers that could help save ourselves? [what are the actual benefits here.]

On the contrary, it'll probably help you defend yourself but it probably will do everything short of tampering with the ritual. However, along with enhanced powers, you will also be able to have a wish granted if you can find your monster match. It sounds like you have some things that you can use yours for.

So the wish is for all of us, too. [she really did misunderstand that and thought there was only a wish for the cultists, but somehow that still isn't entirely enough to sway her.] But that wish can only be granted if we stay alive, right? And there's the risk of being killed if your match is taken out instead. High rewards, but with a high risk attached.

[she could maybe use a wish but again, if she dies, how the hell is she going to get back or use it? this all sort of ties into the same issue.]

Not necessarily. It can be granted immediately, so you could find your monster match and wish your world saved without having to lift a finger to get back to it.

So I guess that means there isn't necessarily a limit on the wish? ...if I used it to guarantee their safety.

You can't wish for a million more wishes, or anything to disrupt the ritual sacrifice itself.

But otherwise, it's fairly powerful.

The wish occurs due to the surge of magical energy that occurs when two monsters are able to find each other, presumably, so I don't believe it'll dissipate with a failed wish. It will simply follow through on the first successful opportunity it has.

So I suppose you can call that another chance, if your first wish is impossible to grant within those limitations.

I won't count it, since I consider it a basic fact about myself.

There is nothing that this all-powerful god they're trying to summon can give me that I cannot attain myself.

Because I was looking for something else. It is less about wanting a wish and wanting to see if it's even possible to truly create an existence that one would call 'god'.

Yes. I was willing to follow this thread of curiosity, and see if there was something in the extended universe that has this great a power. I will admit I've already learned quite a bit.

Though I don't think my curiosity should come at the expense of forty random lives. It's too senseless.

I have no interest in receiving gratitude for basic decency. Plenty of you complain, but in truth, it doesn't matter to me.

Regardless of how anyone feels, I would not allow this much needless sacrifice to persist.

There's something to be said about having a strong resolve. [so. there's that.] All the more reason we should be trying to work with you a little so that your own sacrifice isn't in vain.
