[ oh. he wasn't expecting nehan to elaborate, even if it did seem like fishing in hindsight. ]
That's such a low bar... [ can't help but feel deeply pleased hearing that, though, UGH ] People can't live without other people, and to live is to learn. So, like I said: nothing special.
[ karma is kind of insane, but he's a teenage boy so that comes with the territory. and he's been putting in more work than half the adults here, and he shouldn't have to. ]
I didn't expect that you'd be so reluctant to accept a compliment. [ silly ] Do you still want to learn?
[ the adults are out there suffering retail, he'd consider it a fair exchange ]
I do. Famine was teaching me a little about medicine, before, and Iwatooshi was showing me how to use a polearm. Have you changed your mind about poison?
Foundational knowledge is good to have even if you never apply it. It's the same with core subjects taught in school. I might never make my own poisons, but I'll know better than to mix bleach and ammonia, for example. And if something does happen, I'll know whether to induce vomiting or encourage hydration or simply stability the person and let the poison run its course.
They've got a broader wealth of knowledge than I do. You can probably still work with them.
[ but in terms of providing enrichment, ]
I don't mind teaching you how to do things here though. [ hands-on stuff. ] It'll be important for someone to be able to tend injuries if anything happens to me.
Don't say that. [ those words are red flags, stop it, nobody needs to double-die in a place like this. ]
I saw how much stress Daan and Alfyn were under for being the only doctors we have. So even when you're here and fully capable, I can at least share the burden so you're not shouldering it all on your own.
[ his lil chaos yard... not so little anymore but it's fine. ]
I suppose. [ he doesn't really want to have to dump his extra work on a kid, but. ] We'll see. We'll start with field treatment, the rest is up to how much effort you put in from there.
[ ori i will remember that you didn't give me a memory and am going to cash out on this eventually, i may be an npc but I HAVE YOU IN MY SIGHTS!!!! ]
...I'm not sure. The problem was that we couldn't get our hands on the parts we needed. That hasn't changed, and risking the death of another overseer could be—problematic. If they have to replace all of us, the next group won't be as generous.
[ asdflkjh he's a side character in a feel good manga he has no deep lore!!! remind me next time i'll find something ]
What sort of parts were you missing? I really would've thought you would make sure you have everything you need before messing around and getting yourself blown up.
It was worth it to save one person. If we were really cautious, we might not have been able to help you, Pickles, and Ichiban either.
[ it was only a week apart. ]
...In any case, the machine completely exploded, and it was on that side. You'd have to rebuild it somehow here if you wanted to improve upon it at all.

[ good try though ]
...I don't mind teaching you what I know, mostly. But these poisons are village secrets. They'll die with me.
no subject
Aren't you dead, though, technically?
[ like, he'll stand by his assurance that this isn't real death, but only when it's convenient ]

[ little opportunist... he sounds briefly amused though. ]
What would you do with that kind of knowledge anyway? I barely use it myself.

[ though deadly poison and household toxins are a little different, he'll concede the point. ]
So you could promise me that you'd never use it to hurt someone?
no subject
the answer is a no brainer, but nehan can see the briefest of internal struggles reflected on his face anyways. ]
I promise. If you teach me, I will never use it to hurt somebody intentionally.
[ ACCIDENTS... HAPPEN... he is well aware of his limited capabilities as a chemist ok ]

I'm still not going into specifics.
[ nehan's bank of knowledge about this particular subject is kind of vicious and just not something worth sharing, secret-keeping or no. ]
...But I don't mind going over the fundamentals. You should be able to protect yourself and others, when necessary. Has Famine taught you first aid?
no subject
We started with the basics, but I didn't have much time with them before, you know.
[ before Erin cut him down and stuffed him in a barrel ]
I kept notes, though, and we can build off those if you think that's a good starting point.

It's just safe to have contingencies.
[ he's a glued-together person so a back-up is a good idea. ]
...You don't need to worry about my burdens. They're not your responsibility.
no subject
You share your burdens, I share mine. That's just how normal human interactions work.

You had other questions, right?
no subject
Right. The machine that you guys were working on. Is it still a viable option?
no subject
...I'm not sure. The problem was that we couldn't get our hands on the parts we needed. That hasn't changed, and risking the death of another overseer could be—problematic. If they have to replace all of us, the next group won't be as generous.

It'd have been nice if we had that luxury. Though if we'd worked any slower and less recklessly, some of you would've just died permanently.
[ the fact that their machine blew up and caused whatever this place is on the same day that aventurine dies was just luck. ]
It was a calculated risk. In the end, one of us getting blown up seems a cost worth paying.
no subject
[ like. if aventurine had to perma-die but the machine hadn't exploded and eventually got fixed and saved everybody else? that might be worth it. ]
Anyways, no need to scrap the idea completely. Do you still have whatever remains of the machine? Let me play with it.
no subject
