We were on a bigger ship that was going to space, but it was damaged. It wouldn't last very long. But the escape pod was also heavily damaged, so it was the only way to make sure that pod brought everyone down safely.

Were you just going into space for research, or...?

... yeah.

We didn't even know we could go into space, is the thing. The sky was shielded by something that made it impossible to get through. My boss was the first person to manage to get through that barrier... that we know of.

A barrier? Not just, like... Gravity?

Mmhm. If you try to go too far up, you get blocked eventually.

Which means... someone must have made that barrier, right? Why?

No idea... the problem is that most people had just accepted it as the way things are, and didn't want to research it any further.

The person I work for was the opposite. She was obsessed with breaking through it.
