Apparently they had some sort of plan to trap her, but... the problem with making plans with Kate aware of them beforehand, it's that it seems like the monster is also aware of it. She ended up sabotaging itself.
Yeah, I think it'll be the way to go. Even if it feels like going behind her back, it'll be the surest way to succeed-- or at least to lessen any damage.
... I don't think she'll hate you. I think the fact that you're willing to try to help her, and didn't immediately tell everyone it was her to try to protect her, shows that you care.
