I see.
[ clearly trying not to laugh ]
Typically you have to do something to turn a machine back on again, after you shut it down.

Yes. Gale tried, and it didn't help.

I told you. It was crying for help. It sounded as though it was in pain. I wanted to do something to help it.

Hm...
Robots shouldn't be able to feel pain. Typically they aren't built with the sensors necessary to process the sensation.

I understand that is your experience, but it might not hold up here.
If a robot has pain sensors, someone needs to design it that way.

Would you create a doll that can feel pain?
[ they approach the robot now and famine will look over it, curious ]
If we are to turn it on and cannot fix its pain, do you think it would be better to leave it awake or turn it off again?
[ might as well ask now before they're left in a pretty sadistic position ]

...Yes! I might!
[but she's very fucked up.]
If there's no way to fix its pain, certainly we ought to turn it off.

... to feel only pain...? Or would it feel other things too?
[ but famine will nod then, going to tinker around with the robot. there is a feeling of idle intellectual curiosity, interacting with unfamiliar mechanics ]
If that is your decision, then.
