You're doing good. I saw that you were the one who even brought up talking about this that one trial! Even though it was a difficult thing for everyone to confront, it's better to get it out in the open.
No one expects you to suddenly be able to do everything you're scared to. But these steps are more than fine.

... I know it does then turn into a thing of, if you have a choice between someone who likely won't kill again on their own, or someone possessed who definitely will eventually, people would go for the latter.

Well. No one likes to think of it as transactional, even though it always is! It's not as though it actually matters whether they killed that week or not. Given they seem able to resist killing again for a week most of the time, it may be better to kill someone from a prior week.
