[she seems to believe them intuitively. okay, she and her partner will be besties. that's good.]
Imogen is my very dearest friend. And my girlfriend, probably, though we've been fighting recently, so she may have tired of me. But she is very capable and diligent and powerful, but wonderful in every way.
And Prism is a dear little friend I made in my travels! A wizard, but not arrogant and unbearable! Just a charming and very clever young girl with a great deal of talents.
[her relationships with wizards have been like 200 negative examples, a handful who were kind of rude but fine, and only one purely good one and that's prism.]
Do you think so? It's the first one I've ever been in, so I don't know how these things go.
I know books and stuff like to paint them as, oh once you find the one, there are no problems ever! But it's pretty tricky stuff. Everyone has their own baggage, and now you have to navigate through two people's worth of it as delicately as possible.
That makes sense! For example, Imogen's mother was also slowly being corrupted by a dark force and she lost her to it over time, so she might be projecting some of that baggage onto the dark force I'm being corrupted by even though in my case it's fine!
No. I've had this little problem since long before I met her. [she twirls a strand of hair around her finger.] But I have recently decided that I want to stop... resisting so hard, and instead make use of it for my own ends. Holding back, being timid and frightened of my power - it has only led to me failing to be able to protect those dear to me or to prevent catastrophe.
She didn't disagree with this goal, but she seems to dislike it in practice.
[ hmmm. perhaps she dislikes it in practice because it is not working. pestilence does not know enough about this situation to say anything on it though. ]
Hm, so this power-- how did you come across it? Was it always with you, or something you met along the way...?
[yeah you should probably never take the side in a couple's argument based on one side of the story especially when that person's side sounds batshit insane.]
...Always with me, since I died. But for a long time, I resisted her. For a while, she even lay dormant. I think Imogen could tolerate it more when I was simply her victim, someone for her to toy with, and none of it was my fault. But I don't want to be a victim for the rest of my life.
[ it's hard, because the way of thinking isn't bad, but also no one who says, "everyone else got horribly fucked up by this thing but I'M built different" is rarely ever built different. so. ]
I don't think you should be. Have you been hearing her while here?
No. [a little cross, like she still believes delilah did this on purpose rather than she's just nerfed.] She went silent the moment I arrived. It's maddening.
She sulks and goes quiet sometimes, if she's angry or I don't do as she says. It would be very like her to withhold her assistance when I'm in danger to prove a point.
[she can be very manipulative.]
But she wouldn't risk my death. That would kill her too.

[hmm.]
I suppose Imogen is very capable, but quite fun. And Prism! I can see it. Do you think we'll get along?

Who are Imogen and Prism?

Oh, aw. That's a shame about Imogen though... although every relationship has some ups and downs.

... yeah! Exactly like that! She's definitely worried about you.

I know she is. Poor dear. If only I could make her understand.

Is this a recent change?

Well, I think you should take advantage of this quiet. When was the last time you really just got to be only yourself?
