I want to protect Imogen and the others. After that, I'm not so sure. But if it was possible, I wouldn't mind continuing. It's not about accomplishing anything. I simply don't have much interest in what lies on the other side.

Imogen and the rest of your friends who brought you back to life? Do you also come from a dangerous situation that might involve a cult or kidnapping like half the people here?

Yes. And yes. We were going to go fight a demon so we could stop the cult of the godkiller that lives on the moon.

There's a bridge. Sort of a portal. There was a big ritual to open it and everything.

Is magic truly so accessible in your world? I had guessed as much, but being able to take a trip to the moon seems excessively so.

Magic is reasonably common. Traveling to the moon less so. Also, to activate the portal, Ludinus had to trap some sort of god in an orb.

And that is a thing that can be done?

Trapping gods in orbs. Like trinkets.

Non-existent. There is no magic and no gods. Though even when I hear about magic here, it sounds like it is to be found in systems—and so I wonder if understandings of magic are inherently different based on the framework realms are built on.

Fascinating. It's hard to fathom a world with no magic - I don't know how anything gets done.

Is technology unfamiliar to you? Have you ever seen a lightbulb before? A refrigerator?

We have technology, though. Airships, firearms, factories, that sort of thing. [very steampunk.]

A lightbulb is similar to a torch, but it runs on electricity. It is for illumination. A refrigerator is a box that keeps food cool so it is less likely to perish.

I see. Do you prefer magic to the technology? Or do they simply serve different functions?

...I haven't thought much about what I prefer. Magic has always been part of my life. Sometimes, inconveniently so. It wasn't looked upon well in the village I grew up on.

But modern technology can be a marvel. Recently, my friend was able to commission a weapon from one of the original inventors of firearms - a gun that she could give to her pet monkey that would permit him to fire flaming pieces of his own poop. I can't help but wonder what else scientists will dream of next.

That is a marvel. I suppose that is true. You can always rely on scientists and inventors to come up with the most absurd things. Innovation requires creativity.

In that sense, I don't know how different it really is. Magic also requires creativity, but so many use it as a blunt instrument.
