I wouldn't say so... Basically, the affliction itself isn't contagious or anything, so it doesn't jump from person to person. Like how it didn't pass from Iwatooshi to Mathis.
I suppose my other question is this: we know we can save the lives of those partnered to victims - or the prematurely killed - but what about the partner of someone who faces execution?
Could it be prearranged so the new partnership could take place at the exact moment of death, or is it simply a lost cause?
Basically, the partner is only safe until the ritual ends, which is with the death, and I think the chances of timing it to the exact second is not... high.

It does make things a little... tricky. The other worry would be a situation like Lucas, where he was killed before any confirmation of even a transformation occurred. What if someone does that because they're confident someone did it, and then it turns out they didn't.
It's messy. But people acting on impulse and over grief is hard to predict.
