I believe my circumstances are a bit... different for this conversation, being I serve on a queen's court.

I take orders often, even ones I dislike.

But you can at least see the logic behind orders you dislike, right? Like, there has to be a reason for them.

Well, some of them, yes. Some of them... I don't believe have any logic at all.

Then why would you serve someone who makes pointless commands?

Because there are expectations for me based on the structure of my society. I am in a position not many reach simply by the privilege of my birth. Because of my mother.

And it is only this trajectory - my den, my court position, my allegiance - that I can be closer to the artifacts in which I have a great deal of interest.

So it's not really loyalty. It's convenience?

There is a natural sort of loyalty to my family, but otherwise... yes, in a way.

But you still get something out of the arrangement in return for following dumb rules.

I suppose so. I am not the ruling authority, but I do have a high level of authority and access to places and information civilians do not.

But do we get any special perks like that for following these rules?

I don't know. You would have to follow them to find out.
