Well, no, I agree with that, I just. Had been under the impression that everything so far had been monster related, so this is one hell of a mental retcon to have to make, you know?
...Yeah, I know that's the bigger priority. The other one shouldn't have any incentive to do anything again if they already have their reward guaranteed, right?
I would rather you all put your focus on freeing those who are currently trapped within their own minds, worrying about when they might strike again while not in control of their bodies.
How much of a concern is the "when"? I mean, is everything limited to Thursday nights, or could a monster just decide to kill someone earlier in the week if they wanted to? And would you expect it to make a difference if they already knew they'd been found out? Like, make them more desperate or something since they're expecting to be targeted.
[ since that is... obviously a pressing question right now ]
Hmm... Those summoned on Monday will only be able to act on the Thursday of that week.
As for the cast of that woman... [ camille, since they can follow the train of thought ] It is not guaranteed that she will immediately act again. That is true for any monster summoned. However, it is inevitable that she will try to act again if not killed or cured.
Mm... I was thinking if we only had to worry about her on Thursdays you could just lock her up in one of those barriers again on those nights, and maybe buy some time if there's a possibility of developing a cure.
[ frowns ]
But I guess her power might make it kind of tricky to even be sure you had the right person in the barrier.
It is not wrong to consider the possibility. The others are more skilled with magic, but they can confer with her on whether this is something we can do.
You're right that it will take thorough planning, if this is the strategy you all seek to use moving forward. Though ultimately, it is better than allowing someone to walk free and possibly kill another.
I don't even remember what else I was originally going to ask anymore, this conversation really did not go the way I expected it to. Uh.
...Oh, not related to monsters unless you're about to surprise me again, but— what's the deal with the swamp's healing abilities? That kind of came out of nowhere, and it seems shady as hell.
The swamp has been altering the past few weeks, but that's out of our control. It's not the work of us, monsters, or the cult. But it does seem rather... warped.
For those who require more than basic first aid, it seems like help will come at a cost.
Do the stars actually have something to do with it or is that just an expression for the passage of time?
[ he hasn't really been paying any attention to the sky, but it's not like he knows anything about astronomy in the first place. ]
...Anyway, I get what you mean. But last week's beach location was great and this one sucks, so I wouldn't necessarily trust anything good we get not to shift back later into something worse, either.
[ gets this look like YOU'RE TELLING ME at the indirectness complaint... but at least if they're also complaining about it, they're obviously not making these conversations so annoying by choice, so he guesses he can forgive it.
...but man, they're really moving toward an equilibrium? it's felt to him like everything's just been unraveling faster and becoming more of a mess. ]
[ BECAUSE IT FEELS PRETTY DIRE OUT HERE, FOLKS... phew. ]
All right. I guess I'll just... [ DEAL WITH THESE BOMBSHELLS ] drop another line when I inevitably remember some more questions I'm forgetting now. Thanks.

Nonetheless, don't you think your priorities should shift? There is still at least one more monster to find.

Yeah. Okay.

It is not a poor precaution to take. We aren't at liberty to speak of conversations we have with others, but you can reconvene with her in time.

[ honestly he's not sure he'd even want to do it then because wading into a nasty-ass leech swamp with open wounds sounds fucking awful. ]
So if no one made it do that intentionally, it's just another case of the magic in the atmosphere or whatever making things weird?

Consider it similar to how the additional locations shift every week with the stars. Things are changing constantly.
This is not always a negative.

On that note: think bigger.

About what...?

[ a pause. frowns. ]
It is inconvenient to speak so indirectly... What a waste of time. Just look around. Progress is being made, even if not so obviously.

Progress toward stopping this, you mean?

Yes. [ a beat ] Though it may not come in a form you expect. Pieces are already being distributed around the village.

Okay, well... that's good to know.
