[ there's a pause as he looks more thoughtful, seeming to come to sort of conclusion... and then he nods, lifting his head up from the title. clear eyed and determined and - serious. ]

...Then, can I ask you to recommend me a few more texts on a similar topic? I'd like to be able to teach myself properly, and I don't want to end up with a short-sighted view of it.

[ unfortunately for famine this is exactly the kind of thing that rondo responds to ]

[ this is exactly how he became sazantos' apprentice. sheer dogged determination. also for some reason he likes being yelled at

anyway watch him PERK UP excitedly and then immediately trot after them like a happy golden retriever ]

Thank you, Famine!

[ okay scien

he nods and immediately holds out the other book so they can stack it on top! all of these muscles are really good for holding things. it's actually kind of nice? this is like settling into a very, very familiar routine. ]

Yes, sir. [ (gender neutral) ] Should I keep two stacks, or just one? I can hold any that you want to keep for yourself separately.
flameguard: (THANK YOU VERILY!!!!!)

Heh, sorry. Force of habit. Yes, Famine.

[ he readjusts his hands to hold out both! healing magic book in the left hand, genetics book in the right. holding them flat like pizza pies. he's being so good and not chatty. this takes a lot of personal restraint. ]

[ i truly cannot express to you how normal this is including the part where he's being ignored

it gives rondo a second to observe the books themselves. magic for famine, stem for him.... filling in the blanks of knowledge, is it? that makes sense. so, famine must be from somewhere much more modern to not be so familiar with the magical...

this is how it was at home, too - he's learned really well to pick up on skills just by watching and trying to deconstruct. he holds the books and patiently waits for like.

a solid five minutes of reading. do they keep going. ]

[ FAMINE GO TO JAIL FOR BOOK CRIMES

he is definitely peeking at what they might be referring to, but otherwise goes back to being an excellent book holder, craning his neck to look. and at the question! rondo thinks about it for a moment, tilting his head from side to side. ]

Hmm...I like both, but I think hands on is the best. I adore books, but I usually have to take stringent notes to make sure I remember everything - it comes more naturally if I can learn by doing, if that makes sense.

Haha, yes. [ HE DOESN'T EVEN DISAGREE ] People have been surprised when I told them I liked to read, this week...

[ (zia voice) rondo is literate?

it takes him a second to process what they're asking, but the lightbulb goes off, and he brightens, then nods, expression very serious like this is the most serious task in the world. ]

I will - thank you, Famine. [ he's going to LEARN ] With this, if I can master it, I can finally help out Mr. Daan for everything he's done for us in the cabin so far.

Tourniquets, and stitches. Right.

[ like he is committing that to memory, murmured quietly to himself. okay. ]

Tourniquets - those create pressure to stem bleeding, right? And stitches... I could ask Mr. Daan to see if he has any extra supplies... [ thinking, thinking.... what's the most logical way to do this?

got it! off goes the lightbulb. ]

I think - I want to focus on tourniquets, first. I can practice those before Thursday, and in the meantime, I can study up on the proper application of stitches, so we don't end up wasting any precious medical supplies. And maybe - once I feel like I understand the actual act, maybe I can find something to practice with.

[ plan!!!! he has a plan. ]

Okay. [ ... ] I... if you needed it, I don't know what I could share, but, I do have some experience with the practical application of healing magic. I'm not a cleric, but I can do some. If a lived experience would be helpful with your research, Famine.

[ oh!!!! oh no his hands are full. he looks like, briefly, mildly distressed because he can't write that down but nods... ]

Clean cloth, a tie, and a stick. [ rondo mouths this twice... clean cloth, a tie, and a stick. okay. okay he can remember that. ] So.. maybe it would be best to practice the correct pressure with someone like Alfyn or Mr. Daan once or twice to get the hang of how much there should be and monitor, since they're both medically trained, and then continue to repeat the motion on something nonliving. Like a tree or something, so my hands can get used to it, so in a crisis situation, I can keep a cool head and do it correctly.

[ this is like. mostly mumbling to himself, but it feels like the right thing to do... okay! he has a plan! he is going to learn! also listen he's a paladin hes not even cool enough to have cleric healing. lame. slaps you on the ass and heals you for ten points of damage

anyway he does not seem bothered by being called useless wow its a tuesday. curiously: ]

... What are you interested in?

Necessary pain.... yes, of course. Understood. Better to be in pain for a few moments than to lose your life entirely.

[ this is something that will be funny in (checks watch) under a week when we murder camille and bring her back to life. shaking.

anyway he will record that to mind somewhere, too, mouthing it to himself again. low-hanging branch. something roughly the same width of his own arm, maybe? doable. it's not a perfect practice, but it's better than winging it first thing! as ever, he takes it very seriously, following them like a very helpful puppydog/pack mule.

curiosity flickers across rondo's face - incurable diseases, huh? that's nice... ]

I can see where you and Miss Pesti's interests align... [ fckin diseases. i still dont know what canon pestilence is from but the PLAGUE. anyway. ] Is there any particular reason why? Not that you really need one, I guess - to be able to do something like that would be amazing.

[ they really do remind him of sazantos, it's really just. extremely unfortunate.

and. i've already done that!! to say something so casually - that's really impressive, and rondo's brows raise high, awe flickering across his face. wow... ]

...That's really amazing, Famine. [ and the idea of betterment is something he agrees with, too. as someone who chases strength, there is always going to be another mountain to climb, so he's just deeply appreciative. famine... officially Cool..... ] Striving for betterment, too... I believe much the same, though about far less importat things.

You must have saved many lives. Or, at least, eased so much pain. [ sugoi... ] Do you hope to eradicate it entirely, someday?

[ etc ]

Oh... right. I guess that makes sense. [ yeah. the fever thing! right. duh. no one has ever accused him of being smart (probably). ]

Still, that's a really amazing research interest to have. Have you made progress being here? Not just in the library, but in general.
