Suguru is surrounded by the immaculate walls of what looks like the interior of an elaborate cathedral, washed in soft green light from magical lanterns. He steps - no, he realizes, he isn't even walking, he's floating - off a runic teleportation circle and out of a room into a short hallway with another single sigil at the other end.
He's nervous, but mildly excited. It feels as if he is doing something he isn't supposed to be doing, the bubbling anxiety mixing with the adrenaline of pressing forward.
Stepping up to the sigil, Suguru recites something in a strange language, like a chant, a spell, and the sigil begins to glow. He steps inside it.
A dark portal spits him out on the other end, dropping him into a windowless, doorless room. Around him on pedestals are four cannonball-sized dodecahedrons made of slightly lit quartz-like material. Luxon beacons.
Suguru moves to the closest one, lifting it up in rich, deep purple hands. A warped reflection gazes back at him, someone with the same dark and purple skin, with short white hair and lashes and brows, with two long ears decorated in silver jewelry, with brilliant violet eyes.
Quickly, Suguru flicks his wrist, and the beacon is swallowed up by a lip of space, eaten away into a pocket dimension and gone. Carefully, Suguru glances around at the remaining beacons. They are meant to be holy, revered, but somehow, to Suguru, they are a puzzle to be unraveled. There is something more to them, he knows, something none of them have understood yet, none of them have found. No one will look. So he will look.
He turns away and returns through the dark portal from which he entered.
They are relics excavated from old, buried ruins. My people believe they are pieces of our deity, the Luxon. Those who go through the rite of consecution are then able, upon death in the radius of a beacon, have their soul put into a newly born child in the area.
They retain the memories of each life until they are a perfect soul, ready to meet the Luxon.
Because I'm a wizard. Because I have spent me entire life studying a form of magic which these beacons also seem to utilize in some way, but not in one taught among the discipline.
Not particularly. I have taken some beacons to... a collective of mages who should be able to assist me in studying them. However... this collective is... aligned with a territory currently at opposition with my own.
