[ help!!! she whirls around on her heel quickly because wtf, her body tense as she stares at them for a moment... eventually she lowers her shoulders. right. chill, marina. cool girl.
but also, okay, that's kind of funny to hear. ]
... Really? Have you gotten a lot of "anonymous" letters?
[ what books. three. a jumpy bible. her own bible. and this romance book (that she's enjoying, but she will devour it before the week is up if not sooner.) she's greedy leave me alone. ]
No, just wanted to see how nosy you were.
There's no way I'd be allowed to see any of these occult tomes of yours, is there?
[ pwease wet me into your wibwawy....? /throws up ]
Good to know!
[ nosies... makes notes because those are the two i need to still hit. ]
... and yeah. Your own. Or the cult's. I'm interested in either... I mean. I think I'd be happy to share some of my knowledge to make it somewhat even.
Even if it's not applicable here, I think the God of Fear and Hunger is an interesting one.
[ her gods aren't here, hardly palpable, the book won't do much but be a book, so this is fine. ]
We do not have access to any of the cult's true information as we are not a part of their leadership. My own are my business and not for any of you, at least not until I am convinced it's worth it. What I study is not based in the occult, however.
Is there a reason you are interested in the occult?
I figured the cult information might be off limits... oh well. Worth a shot. A girl's gotta try, you know.
[ there's a pause then, a little hesitation. ]
My father... [ a beat ] was a dark priest. He was deeply entrenched in the old ways, trying to win the favor of long-forgotten gods through terrible old rituals and rites, however his magical aptitude left much to be desired despite his status as a big wig in the church. Where I'm from, magic is rare among most. So I wanted to nurture it. Learn. Understand.
...I can offer you answers to both, within the realm of my knowledge. But know that the monsters were a side-effect of your summoning here. We were not anticipating it, and are still learning somewhat ourselves.
Gotta put my brains to work or I'll start climbing the walls.
[ as she considers this: ]
... That's alright then. Whatever you can part with is what I'd like to learn. I'd like to understand a bit more about what I might be getting into. Or I guess what I'm getting into it with.
Do you know what a dragon is? It's a somewhat close approximation to your beast. A sky serpent. Enraptured by the moon, enough that they would swallow some whole. Some say a lunar eclipse is thanks in part to its presence, as the creature starts to consume the moon, or perhaps steal it away in an act of grief.
Like much folklore, there is no strict record or description of it. But oftentimes it is said to have consumed six moons before it was driven away.
[ she just nods, she knows what a dragon is, and just listening to all of this kind of leaves her a bit silent a moment before: ]
It consumes the moon. Not what I expected...
[ part of her prickles just a little bit it feels like it hits a little too closely to home, burrows into too fresh a cut that's far too deep. an act of grief so desperate.
for her to be consumed by the moon's sickness just to come full circle.
Strong, but not omnipotent. You could wish for something here or back in your own realm. But I doubt you'd be able to budge the actual machinations of the ritual going on—you wouldn't be able to wish that away.
I specialize more in biology than curses. Sometimes these things can be prevented with the right... for instance, let's call it a vaccine. Or a cure. Other times, you'd have to rely on the specialty of a healing cleric, someone who uses magic to remove the curse and repair the body.
You're in a crowd of people from intersecting worlds, with knowledge of medicine and magic from different dimensions. It is not unfathomable to me that you could attempt to find a solution, in addition to your wish. Though whether or not you'll achieve this is beyond what I can predict.
week 0, monday
I am learning so few others of you sign your names.
no subject
but also, okay, that's kind of funny to hear. ]
... Really? Have you gotten a lot of "anonymous" letters?
no subject
[ no one remembers to sign. that's fine. ]
It was not a recommendation. I don't bother reading romanticized fiction.
no subject
anyways. ]
What do you read?
no subject
Tomes of research and academics on magic.
no subject
[ anyways ]
You didn't go through our stuff before it got crated up, did you?
no subject
Why? Do you have something you don't wish others to see?
no subject
No, just wanted to see how nosy you were.
There's no way I'd be allowed to see any of these occult tomes of yours, is there?
no subject
Pestilence and Famine are the ones who are nosy.
Do you mean my own, or the cult's?
no subject
Good to know!
[ nosies... makes notes because those are the two i need to still hit. ]

Where I'm from, magic is rare among most. So I wanted to nurture it. Learn. Understand.
So what do you study then...?
no subject
[ not this explanation hello. ]
I see. I do not judge the pursuit. I study a form of what you could call magecraft. Magic.
no subject
Magecraft, that sounds fascinating. How does it work?
no subject
That I cannot divulge to just anyone. It's an esoteric study of the fundamentals of potentiality.
no subject
I see.
[ does she? ]
Worth a shot, I suppose. Is that what you do all day when we don't see you? Ponder metaphysics?
no subject
no subject
The four of you, were you brought into this cult together?
no subject
We joined around the same span of time.
[ do not assign them friends, they aren't. ]
no subject
Yeah? Been bothered by quite a few of us yet?
Were you brought here via a ritual like us, or did you just sign on the dotted line?
no subject
A large portion of you, yes. We signed on the dotted line for our own reasons, but realized afterward we didn't agree with the methods.
week 0 monday
No, we aren't affected.
[Hi.]
no subject
anyways, she's thankful she isn't just SNEAK ATTACK'D upon this time. in fact, wow, this is incredibly normal of you despite the whole get up. ]
Short and sweet, thanks.
And the whole... potentially learning about them bit? Any literature on the thing I've been stapled to?
no subject
They are just a normal cultist. There is a very slight tilt of their head, curious.]
Do you mean learning about how they effect you, or the folklore behind them.
no subject
Both. I mean both. Well. Any information really, but I want to study up.
no subject
The scholarly type.
...I can offer you answers to both, within the realm of my knowledge. But know that the monsters were a side-effect of your summoning here. We were not anticipating it, and are still learning somewhat ourselves.

[Folklore before game lore.]

for her to be consumed by the moon's sickness just to come full circle.
okay maybe she can work with this. ]
Well ok... my interest's piqued.
no subject
That's the legend, anyway. Maybe it's just a particularly gluttonous sky snake.
Either way, it's a part of you now.
no subject
For better or worse, apparently.
Anyways, I'm not sure how useful turning someone scaly is... but it's a start!
no subject
[Might help her narrow down who her partner is, slowly.]
You'll get a wish if you choose to solidify your bond as well.
no subject
It is. Something to keep my eye on. [ though she pauses at that last bit, hands briefly clutched in one another. ]
A wish... and... how limited is that wish exactly?
no subject
Strong, but not omnipotent. You could wish for something here or back in your own realm. But I doubt you'd be able to budge the actual machinations of the ritual going on—you wouldn't be able to wish that away.
[Can't end the game.]
no subject
[ stinky, but fair. ]
What about... a life? Back home?
no subject
[They seem thoughtful, turning the idea in their head for a second.]
I think that's possible. Not more than that, though. Just one.
no subject
no subject
[They regard her curiously.]
Does that make it enough for you?
no subject
If they were afflicted by a condition just prior to death... would it be possible to bring them back as human as they were before...?
no subject
Hm. I have my doubts. Revival alone would be a task. I would be prepared to treat their condition independent of their death.
What was happening to them? ...If I may ask.
no subject
[ she shifts uncomfortably. ]
It's... caused by the light of the moon god back home. A curse that deteriorates the body into something monstrous.
no subject
[Their tone turns to something studious.]
