[ This Monday, one of the crows will come to Caelus without being beckoned over. In simple script, they are told to pass through the fog on the south side of the village and go to the garden that the Overseers were seen tending to on the very first Monday. While there, Pestilence meets them and hands them the following parchment: ]
You have been chosen to complete one task in exchange for a piece of information that will aid the village’s goal of escaping sacrifice. You have until the night sky once again changes with the new week. Complete this task and be rewarded.
✦ TASK: Get one person to give you their underwear.
[ Your Overseer is present to answer any questions. ]
[ SAME DAY (since this happened monday)--he does not MESS AROUND when it comes to item delivery quests! have iwatooshi's underwear, ya perverts!!!! he will be back for them tomorrow... before ishtar dies. ]
[ On Sunday night, Caelus will be summoned via crow to return to the garden. The Overseer hands him something. It's a scrap piece of paper from a journal, written in a messy scrawl. ]
—ter what happened today, I don't think you could call this place safe by any stretch of the imagination. We've seen it react now in nearly a hostile way to our presence, and I don't know how long we can stay. Even so, the fact that it exists at all is beyond my expectation.
I suspect some of them want to reach out and make contact with the others, to ease their grief. I understand. But on the other hand, the cult realizing that this place exists—that there might be any space, no matter how small, that they cannot observe—would be catastrophic. What little safety and advantage we do have would be forfeit, and the cult is likely to wipe the slate clean and start over. And in truth, I have no proof that there's a way back.
So, is it worth hoping that they can keep a secret? Perhaps it is cruel, but I want to err on the side of caution.
[ waving them over! he's set up a small picnic--okay, it's one of the blankets from the barn spread on the floor of a room in the academy. and the food is woods berries definitely picked earlier before camille fucking died. it's not like, a real lunch? but will you tell him that to his face? ]
Don't mention it, but I kinda stole the idea from Lavi, although his intentions were curse-based. But I don't think eating with friends is a bad way to spend the time between the rough moments.
[ they are friends now. pestilence, when pressed to in a party game, gave him compliments.
[ he arrives in 58 minutes. eyes are back and sparkling with animal intelligence!!! hair is.... still... so long.... for now. ]
I keep getting caught in situations where someone's hurt and there's nothing I can do. Some basic first-aid would be better than nothing until I can get them to the healing spring or you.
...I see. [ he gestures him over to a supply cabinet, which he opens to rummage through as he speaks. ] There's more than one of you who's had the same thought. A hope to be useful in some way.
week 0, monday
If this is about whether subterfuge will work, you have not given us much time.

[ whipping around, bat at the ready, but he'll stop short as soon as he sees the familiar mask. ]
Hey, don't do that!

I believe the only thing that may ambush you are crows.

[ that's, like, crow abuse. ]
... So, no movement yet, huh?
[ baby it's been less than 24 hours ]

It has not even been a whole day. [ they will simply say it. ] You must have some patience.

Can I ask for them and lie about why I need them?
[ not a huge fan of lying but potentially more scared of being labelled the village pervert...... ]

Kanda is surly. I'm not someone worth knowing. There's a difference.
[ he says this very plainly, without emotion. ]
We can be associates without it being personal.

noted.
it's cool. caelus was in need of a new project now that he can't bother the living (outside of letters). ]
I always thought that being worth knowing was something determined by the person who wants to know you.
[
You think it's determined by who you are?
