Oh, well, that's simple enough! Some are just very trusting and bond easily with those they view as figures in positions of power who choose to help them. Others likely don't want to feel their trust is misplaced so they put the effort into cultivating a relationship! Some may even be attempting to garner favor by building ties but with this group, I do doubt that being a high goal.
